Coordinates: 33 ° 55 ′ S , 151 ° 6 ′ E Canterbury City was a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Canterbury was part of the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area was 34 km² and had about 137,000 inhabitants.
In 2016, the administrative area was incorporated into the newly created City of Caterbury-Bankstown .
geography
Canterbury was about 10 km southwest of the city center on the edge of Inner Sydney. The area included 32 neighborhoods: Belmore, Belmore South, Campsie, Campsie South, Clemton Park, Earlwood, Earlwood West, Harcourt, Lakemba, Lakemba South, McCallums Hill, Rosedale, Roselands, Undercliffe, Wiley Park and parts of Ashbury, Ashfield, Ashfield South, Belfield, Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills North, Bexley North, Canterbury, Croydon Park, Enfield, Enfield South, Greenacre, Hurlstone Park, Kingsgrove, Narwee, Punchbowl and Riverwood. The administrative headquarters of the council was in the Campsie district in the north of the LGA.

Canterbury City Council had ten members elected by LGA residents. Three members each came from the three wards East, Central and West, the chairman and mayor was also elected by all residents of the LGA. The three electoral districts were determined independently of the districts.
