Cantharis (Cantharis) pellucida is a beetle from the family of the soft beetles (Cantharidae).
features
The beetles are 9 to 13.5 millimeters long. The back of the head and the elytra are gray-black in color. The pronotum is red-yellow. The front head and legs are also colored red-yellow, the splints (tibia) and tarsi of the front legs are also mostly red-yellow. The middle rails and middle tarsi, as well as the rear rails and rear tarsi, are mostly dark in color. The rear thighs (femora) are rarely colored dark. The antennae are colored red-yellow at the base, otherwise black.
distribution
Cantharis pellucida is widespread in Europe. The species is common in Central Europe.
Way of life
The beetles can be found on the edges of forests and in meadows. The beetles are often found on umbellifers and hawthorns . They fly from early May to July. Beetles and larvae predatory feed on small insects and larvae, as well as dead insects. The beetles also consume plant nectar.
