Cape Henlopen State Park

The Cape Henlopen State Park is a State Park in Sussex County , Delaware , on the Atlantic coast of the United States . It was named after Cape Henlopen , the southernmost tip of the Delaware Bay. The 2,102 hectare park was established in 1682 by William Penn as the first so-called public land of the later United States.

On the cape is Fort Miles, a military fort from World War II . The fort protected the entrance to Delaware Bay . The cape forms the beginning of the American Discovery Trail .
