Cape Jackson is a cape at the northeast end of the Marlborough Sounds of the Marlborough District on the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
Cape Jackson is located around 40 km northeast of Picton and around 50 km northwest of Wellington at the northeast end of the large, branching peninsula that flanked Queen Charlotte Sound to the northwest . The long headland at the end of which the cape is located was called by the Māori " Te Taonui-a-Kupe " , which means something like the spear of Kupe .
Together with Cape Lambert , 6.8 km further west, Cape Jackson forms the end of the natural harbor Te Anamāhanga / Port Gore on its west side and 11.7 km further southeast with Cape Koamaru the end of the Queen Charlotte Sound .
The cape, which consists of a peninsula-shaped cliff with a height of 86 m , cannot be reached via a road connection, but only via a hiking trail leading from Anakakata Bay to the cape.
Cape Jackson Lighthouse
The Cape Jackson Lighthouse is located on the tip of the cape and replaces the beacon that was previously installed on a rock around 600 m northeast.
