Cape Wanbrow is a cape in the Waitaki District of the Otago regionon the South Island of New Zealand .
geography
The cape, which consists of an approximately 70 m long and up to 45 m wide, pointed headland, is located 2.7 km south-southeast of the city center of Oamaru . The cape can be reached from Oamaru via the Bushy Beach Road , which leads to Bushy Beach , located southwest of the cape , and from there a hiking trail leads to the cape.
A good one kilometer north of the cape, a beacon marks the entrance to the port of Oamaru .
geology
Cape Wanbrow and part of its hinterland is of volcanic origin. The landscape was formed 40 million to 30 million years ago in a series of volcanic eruptions and was shaped into today's landscape by erosion .
history
During the Second World War , the cape was a lookout point for the army, who operated a camp inland and cannons on the coast for defense.
Flora and fauna
Little penguins , yellow-eyed penguins and New Zealand fur seals live alongside the coast of the Cape, and elephant seals are occasionally seen on the rocks .
