Capel Bond (born December 14, 1730 in Gloucester , † February 14, 1790 in Coventry ) was an English organist , conductor and composer .

Life

Capel Bond was the son of a bookseller and received his musical training from Martin Smith (1715–1786), organist at Gloucester Cathedral . In 1749 Capel Bond was appointed organist at St. Michael's and All Angels in Coventry. From 1752 he was also organist at the nearby Holy Trinity Church . In addition to his obligations as an organist, Bond worked as a music teacher and as a successful concert organizer. He conducted Handel oratorios in various cities in Central England .

Capel Bond was buried in St. Bartholomew's Church in Binley , where his headstone can still be seen.

Capel Bond's works are shaped by Handel, John Stanley and Geminiani's compositions, but show influences of the gallant style . Similar to Richard Mudge , the first concerto in the collection is a trumpet concerto and the sixth is for bassoon. Concerts two to five adhere to the formal language of the Concerto grosso .
