Coordinates: 33 ° 33 ′ S , 115 ° 33 ′ E The Shire of Capel is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . The area is 558 km² and has over 17,000 inhabitants (2016).
Capel is located in the southwest of the state on the Australian west coast about 180 kilometers south of the capital Perth . The headquarters of the Shire Council is in the village of Capel, where about 2000 inhabitants live (2016).

The Capel Council has nine members. They are elected by all residents of the Shire. Capel is not divided into districts. The chairman of the council (Shire President) is also recruited from among the councilors.
