Capella is an impact crater on the front of the moon north of Mare Nectaris , immediately east of Isidorus crater , the eastern wall of which is covered by Capella, and northwest of Gaudibert . The crater is very badly eroded, the interior is uneven and has a central mountain .
The lunar valley of the Vallis Capella runs in a north-westerly and south-easterly direction, the central part of which was overlaid by Capella.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the late ancient Roman encyclopaedist Martianus Capella .
