Caprau is a hamlet in the municipality of Disentis / Mustér in the valley of the Vorderrhein in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . The name Caprau is a combination of the Rhaeto-Romanic casa ("house") and prau ("meadow"). The district is located at an altitude of 1102  m above sea level. M.

history

An avalanche that destroyed several houses in the hamlet on April 9th, 1975, meant the end of the rural settlement. In 1976 the authorities ordered the residents to move to Cavardiras or Disentis-Dorf. The canton of Graubünden imposed a residential ban during the winter months. The summer tourists revived the abandoned apartments.

Today Caprau is populated again almost all year round. The trees above the village serve as avalanche protection. The village now consists of five houses, one of which is inhabited all year round.
