Cavardiras
Cavardiras is a village in the municipality of Disentis / Mustér in the Surselva in the canton of Graubünden.
The name is derived from the Roman verb cavrir : remove the bark from the trees (e.g. by eating goats, caura / chavra = goat), peeling them so that they wither. Cavardiras corresponds roughly to the German Schwende or Reute .
The village with just under 50 inhabitants is secluded on a terrace on the southern valley side of the Vorderrhein east of Disentis at an altitude of 1132 m. ü. M.
The village is best known for the pilgrimage church, visible from afar and consecrated to Antonius of Padua . Since 2006 there has been a restaurant in Cavardiras with the small guesthouse "Pign Padua" (Little Padua).
The village can be reached from Disentis via a narrow road that leads back to Hauptstrasse 19 at the Russeinerbrücke . On weekdays the post bus goes to Cavardiras several times a day.
Cavardiras is also the name of a mountain hut belonging to the Swiss Alpine Club SAC.
