Anthony Church Cavardiras
The Catholic Church of St. Antonius of Padua , a branch church of Disentis / Mustér , stands on a prominent edge of the village Cavardiras in the municipality of Disentis / Mustèr in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. It is dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua .
history
A previous building, a small chapel, was built by the Capuchins and consecrated on December 6, 1662. It was replaced in 1689 by the present church, on July 18, 1695 consecrated was. In 1704 Cavardiras received the right to employ a chaplain. Renovations took place in 1931 and 1983–86.
construction
The 17 meter long church is an east-facing Baroque building with a nave and a recessed rectangular choir. The choir and nave are covered with stucco barrel vaults from 1931. The tower was built after the church, it stands on the south side and wears a pointed helmet over eyelashes. Its access is on the first floor, as the ground floor serves as a passage to the choir. Three bells from 1910, 1782 and 1661 hang in the tower.
Furnishing
The high altar in the choir dates from around 1690; the altarpiece depicts Anthony of Padua. The tabernacle was made in 1720 by Brother Peter Solèr. The left side altar dates from 1690, the right from 1720, the figure in it is new. The numerous votive pictures date from the 17th to the 20th century.
It is possible to reach the church, which is 100 meters above the valley floor, with a short ascent from Senda Sursilvana . The Senda Sursilvana is the long-distance hiking trail along the Vorderrhein Valley.
