Capuanus is an impact crater in the southwest of the lunar front , on the southern edge of the Palus Epidemiarum , south of the Mercator crater and west of Cichus . The rim of the crater is badly eroded and the interior is flooded with lava .

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Italian astronomer Francesco Capuano Di Manfredonia .
