The caqueta spring monkey ( Plecturocebus caquetensis , syn .: Callicebus caquetensis ) is a primate species from the subfamily of the spring monkeys within the family of the sakia monkeys (Pitheciidae) that was only described in 2010 .
features
Caqueta jumper monkeys are gray-brown with a reddish tone and have a hazel-brown-red fur on the belly and on the inside of the arms and legs. The hair is colored in the agouti pattern. There is a matt light gray stripe above the eyes, which distinguishes the species from the very similar species White-tailed Spring monkey ( Callicebus discolor ) and White-fronted Spring monkey ( Callicebus ornatus ), which have a white stripe here. The long tail is gray with indicated banding and in the rear third, brush-like with black and white agouti hairs.
distribution and habitat
The species occurs between the Río Orteguaza and the Río Caquetá in the Colombian province of Caquetá at altitudes between 190 and 260 m, the exact distribution area is still unknown.
Way of life
So far, very little is known about the way of life. Caqueta Spring monkeys live in small groups of an average of four animals in the fragmented remains of the rainforest.
Danger
The population of the species is estimated at less than 250 adults. It has been proposed to classify the species as " critically endangered " on the IUCN's Red List of Threatened Species .
