Plecturocebus is a genus of monkeys from the subfamily of Spring monkeys (Callicebinae). The genus was only introduced in March 2016 and includes the species of the cupreus , donacophilus and the moloch group from the genus Callicebus .

features

Compared to other jumper species , the Plecturocebus species are only small to medium-sized. They are mostly gray or gray-brown colored animals that sometimes have a noticeable red whiskers. Arms and legs are relatively short for jumper monkeys, the arms reach a length of 52 to 61% of the trunk length, for the legs it is 71 to 81%. The brain skull is small (20-29% of the skull length), elongated and deeply placed. The set of chromosomes is diploid , the number of chromosomes is 46, 48 or 50.

Plecturocebus species occur in the Amazon basin south of the Amazon and the Río Napo in the west to the lowlands of Bolivia and south to the northwest of Paraguay. Only the caqueta spring monkey ( Plecturocebus caquetensis ) occurs north between the Río Orteguaza and the Río Caquetá in the Colombian province of Caquetá .

The genus Plecturocebus includes about 20 species in two species groups. The species of the cupreus species group of Callicebus belong to the moloch group.
