Ron Stallings
Ronald Jerome Stallings (born December 2, 1947 in Oakland , † April 13, 2009 in Berkeley ), called The Reverend (Latin reverendus, German: Reverend) was an American musician. From 1994 until his death he was part of the horn section of the band Huey Lewis & the News , where he played the saxophone .
biography
Stallings learned to play the clarinet and saxophone from the age of 13 . He starred with Michael Bloomfield , Elvin Bishop , Tom Fogerty and Otis Rush in the late 1960s and 1970s, and with Jerry Garcia in the 1980s . Before becoming a permanent member of the Huey Lewis & the News brass section, he worked with Lou Rawls in 1990 .
His first work as a member of the band around Huey Lewis were the four new pieces that the group recorded for the best of collection Time Flies: The Best of Huey Lewis & the News : Stallings played the saxophone for the songs 100 Years From Now, So Little Kindness, 'Til the Day After and When the Time Has Come. He was then involved in all of the band's albums that were released until his death.
In addition to the saxophone and clarinet, Stallings also mastered playing the flute and horn . He died on April 13, 2009 of complications from cancer , which he had fought for three years. He was buried in the Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo .
