Mario Cipollina

Mario Carlo Cipollina (born November 10, 1954 in San Rafael ) is an American musician and founding member of the rock band Huey Lewis & the News . As a bass player , he was a member of the group from 1979 until he left in 1995. He is the brother of the late 1989 guitarist of Quicksilver Messenger Service , John Cipollina .

biography

Mario Cipollina and his brother, who had left Quicksilver Messenger Service, founded the band Copperhead in 1970 when he was fifteen . However, he was forced by his parents to leave the group shortly before they signed their record deal. He was also a member of Terry and the Pirates and Tony Williams Lifetime . He was also a member of the band Sound Hole, of which Johnny Colla was a member and who released the single Everyday (For The Rest Of My Life) in 1975 .

Both musicians founded the group Huey Lewis and the American Express in 1979 together with Huey Lewis , Sean Hopper and Bill Gibson . After being renamed Huey Lewis & the News, the band received a recording deal.

Cipollina recorded seven albums with the band from 1980 to 1994 and left the group in 1995 after touring for the album Four Chords & Several Years Ago . He has since worked with The Novato Frank Band, Jonathan Cain, Bill Champlin , Ozzie Ahlers, The Doobie Brothers , Johnny Nitro, Steve Lanza and Melvin Seals, among others .
