Car Assembly Ltd. was a manufacturer of automobiles from Malta .

Company history

The Mizzi organization founded the company in Marsa in 1960 to assemble automobiles using the CKD process . The licenses for the production came from foreign manufacturers. At times the company held 55% market share in Malta. The export countries were Greece , Israel , Jamaica and Tunisia . In 1974 Maurice F. Mizzi became director. Under his leadership, production was increased to 8 vehicles a day. Production ended in 1981. Other sources give the production period as 1960 to 1980 and 1961 to 1977. In total, more than 2000 vehicles were built.

The first model was the Triumph Herald . In 1961 a model from Dodge and the Hillman Minx added to the range. The Mini , Austin and Morris 1100 and 1300 , Hillman Hunter , Morris Oxford Series VID with diesel engine , Rover P 6 2000 and Triumph Spitfire followed later . The last model was the Morris Marina . In addition to passenger cars , commercial vehicles were also created . Models from Commer and the Triumph Herald Courier are mentioned. The Alfa Romeo Alfasud was the only Italian model.
