Carapeguá ( Guaraní : Karapegua) is a city in Paraguay ( South America ). It is the capital of the Distrito Carapeguá and is located in the Paraguarí department . The distance to the capital Asunción is about 84 kilometers.
The city lies on the dry Caañabé river and was founded in 1725 by Martín de Barúa. It has around 6,000 inhabitants (2002 calculation) . Around 30,000 people live in the Carapeguá district of the same name.
