Carbost ( Scottish Gaelic Càrrabost ) is a town in the Civil Parish Bracadale on the Scottish island of Skye and thus belongs to the Highland Council Area . It is located on the south coast of Loch Harport in the Civil parish Bracadale about 16 km southwest of the main town Portree and should not be confused with the hamlet of Carbost near Portree, which is also on the Isle of Skye. Carbost is known as the location of the Talisker whiskey distillery , founded in 1831 , the only distillery on Skye and one of the most important employers in the area.
Dun Merkadale is on the B8009 road between Carbost and Drynoch.
