Cardinals Folly is a Finnish doom metal band from Helsinki , which was founded in 2004 under the name The Coven .

history

The band was formed in 2004 under the name The Coven. However, since the members found that there were already many bands with this name, it was renamed Cardinals Folly in 2007. In 2009 the EP Orthodox Faces was released . The band then signed a contract with Shadow Kingdom Records , which in 2011 included the debut album Such Power Is Dangerous! has been published. In 2014, the same label released the second album under the name Our Cult Continues! .

style

On their Facebook profile, the band states that they sound something like the late Reverend Bizarre . These would be influences alongside Bathory , Cathedral , Black Sabbath , Electric Wizard and Venom . According to Stefan Glas from Rock Hard , the band plays on Our Cult Continues! classic Doom Metal, which is somewhat devalued by weird vocals. According to Peter Mildner from metal.de in his review of Our Cult Continues! Cardinals Folly is part of a number of young Finnish doom metal bands such as Lord Vicar , The Wandering Midget , Serpent Warning and Casket Open . On the album, the band play classic Doom Metal with the use of a fuzz box and clear baritone vocals. The band “orientates itself slightly towards the kaleidoscopic world of images of CATHEDRAL , but without touching on its rampant decadence, as well as, and this much more clearly, towards the weird whims of THE EQUINOX OV THE GODS ”. In addition, “expansive compositions and excess lengths” are almost completely dispensed with. However, Mildner also found that the songs were devalued by the singing.
