Carel Begeer

Carel Joseph Anton Begeer (born October 15, 1883 in Utrecht , † November 12, 1956 in Voorschoten ) was a Dutch goldsmith and entrepreneur . He was general director of Koninklijken Nederlandschen Edelmetaal bedrijven Aktiengesellschaft.

Life

He was the son of the President of the Chamber of Commerce in Utrecht, Anthonie Beeger, and his wife Margje nee Straver. After attending commercial school, Carl Beeger went to the art academy and university. He later became President of the Dutch Chamber of Commerce for Germany and the international organization of the trade association in the precious metal and gemstone industry. He was also a member of the board of trustees of the German-Dutch Institute at the University of Cologne .

He had numerous international contacts, such as Georg Jensen, Josef Hoffmann and Adolf von Mayrhofer. One of his most famous students is Gerrit Thomas Rietveld (1888–1964), whose drawing lessons he supervised in his workshops.

Carel Beeger published several times on goldsmithing and was also a member of the German Society for Goldsmithing. His monographs include:

He was married and had five children.

Honors

In 1933 he was awarded the gold medal of the Society for Goldsmithing . These were given to members of the society as an honor for great service to society.
