Carey Nunatak is a nunatak on the Leopold and Astrid Coast of Princess Elisabeth Land in East Antarctica . It rises south of Mikhaylov Island at the base of the West Ice Shelf .
Australian scientists named it after the Australian geologist Samuel Warren Carey (1911-2002), an early proponent of the theory of continental drift .
