Caribbean Airways is a Barbadian airline .
history
From December 1970, one of two Boeing 707s from Laker Airways was used for a weekly low-cost flight between Luxembourg and Barbados on behalf of International Caribbean Airways due to a joint venture between Barbadian businessmen Norman Ricketts and Geoffrey Edwards with the government of Barbados and Laker Airways. Laker Airways initially held a 33% stake in International Caribbean. The Laker Airways aircraft assigned to International Caribbean Airways carried the International Caribbean inscription and the Barbadian flag on both sides of the front fuselage instead of the Laker inscription and the Union flag . In addition to the weekly Luxembourg-Barbados flights, which were subsequently extended twice a week to London Gatwick, regular charter flights were carried out from Canada and West Germany to Barbados. In January 1975 the International Air Transport Association (IATA) designated International Caribbean Airways as the flag carrier for Barbados.
