Caripe or Caripe del Guácharo is a village in the Venezuelan state of Monagas . It is the capital of the District ( Municipio ) Caripe. Caripe is known as the Jardín del oriente venezolano (Garden of the Venezuelan East) in Venezuela.
history
Caripe was founded on October 12, 1734 by the Franciscan Father Pedro de Gelsa. In 1799, Alexander von Humboldt and Aimé Bonpland visited the village while traveling through South America.
Attractions
To the west of the village is the El Guácharo National Park with the largest stalactite cave in South America, the Cueva del Guácharo.
