The Carl-Schirren-Gesellschaft is an association based in Brömsehaus in Lüneburg , which maintains the cultural heritage of the Baltic Germans. She is a member of the German-Baltic Society .

history

The company was founded in Kiel in 1932 with the significant contribution of Kurt Stegmann von Pritzwald and named after the historian Carl Schirren . During the time of National Socialism the existence of the company was suspended. In the post-war period , the association developed in 1950 under Max Hildebert Boehm in Lüneburg into the German-Baltic cultural work. In 1970 their charitable status was recognized.

The German Baltic Cultural Foundation , as a foundation under civil law with its seat in Lüneburg , emerged from the Carl Schirren Foundation, which was established in 1994. It is a member of the Federal Association of German Foundations. The business of the foundation is managed by the management of the Carl-Schirren-Gesellschaft in personal union.

activities

The company works closely with cultural and scientific institutions in Estonia , Latvia and Germany . It organizes the German-Baltic Culture Days (Carl-Schirren-Tag), the Baltic seminars , exhibitions and issues publications. Manuscripts, documents, maps, postcards, paintings, graphics, photographs, furniture, porcelain, silver and other goods are stored in the archive.

The Baltic scholarship of the Carl Schirren Society goes back to an initiative of the Baltic German Youth and Student Association in 1991. The Carl-Schirren-Gesellschaft took over the patronage in autumn 1991 .

The Carl-Schirren-Gesellschaft is also the publisher of the yearbook of the Baltic Germanness , which is produced on behalf of the German-Baltic Landsmannschaft .
