Carl Donald Keith

Carl Donald Keith (born May 29, 1920 in Stewart Creek , West Virginia , † November 9, 2008 in New Bern , North Carolina ) was an American chemist and together with John J. Mooney the co-inventor of the three-way catalyst .

life and work

Carl D. Keith graduated from Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1943. After studying chemistry at Indiana University, which he completed with a master's degree, he moved to DePaul University , where he received his doctorate in 1947. He began his career as a chemist with the Sinclair Oil Company. In 1957 he moved to Engelhard Corporation , where he retired as Chairman in 1985.

One of his achievements was the development of the three-way catalytic converter together with John J. Mooney in the 1970s. In 2002 he was awarded the National Medal of Technology for his services.
