Life

Wolff studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1978 to 1984 and was a master student of Gotthard Graubner . In 1981 he received the PSI scholarship in New York and in 1986 the scholarship from the Art Fund Foundation , Bonn. After the Villa Romana Prize in 1991, he was visiting professor at the HBK Braunschweig . Since 1999 Carl Emanuel Wolff has been Professor of Three-Dimensional Working and Sculpture at the HfBK Dresden .

In his sculptures and installations, Carl Emanuel Wolff often deals with topics that are based on familiar stories. Dwarfs were repeatedly the subject of an installation. After making his debut at the Biennale in São Paulo, Brazil in 1996 as a German representative, curated by Karin Stempel , Wolff last showed "Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs" in 2011 in the Duisburg Lehmbruck Museum with 7 sculptures and a young actress. In earlier installations he also combined sculpture with living actors: bronze wild boars and billiard players in Düsseldorf or himself in the midst of his sculptures, disguised as a dwarf nose. The sculptures themselves are often representational, but combine not only bronze or aluminum but also unusual materials, such as red fireworks or ordinary rags. In 2011 Carl Emanuel Wolff received the first prize for the design of the south courtyard of the extension of the Marie-Elisabeth-Lüders-Haus in Berlin by the German Bundestag. The sculpture is currently provided with privacy barriers and is not publicly visible due to serious structural problems around the extension. Wolff's works can be found in private collections and museums. He is a member of the German Association of Artists .
