Carl Fredrick Becker ( Carl F. Becker , Carl Becker Jr .; * 1919 in Chicago ; † January 30, 2013 ) was an American violin maker and restorer.

The son of violin maker Carl G. Becker began to assist his father at the age of sixteen and joined the company William Lewis and Son in 1937 , where he worked as a violin maker and restorer under the guidance of his father. In 1941 he was called up for military service. He became a United States Air Force pilot and was promoted to major. After the war he returned to violin making, and in 1947 he made his first violin. It was the first of only thirteen violins and violas that he made by himself. On all other instruments he worked with his father or his children Paul and Jennifer Becker .

In 1968 he and his father founded the company Carl Becker and Son . Both are counted among the most important American violin makers of the 20th century. Becker Jr. has also built a reputation as a meticulous restorer. From 1970 to 1971 he was entrusted with the restoration of the Lady Blunt , a violin made by violin maker Antonio Stradivari in 1721, which has been preserved in almost its original state and which was sold at an online auction in 2011 for $ 15.9 million. Becker was a founding member of the International Society of Violin and Bowmakers and the American Federation of Violin and Bowmakers . The violin makers who have learned from him include Raphael Carrabba , Charles Rufino , Thomas Immel , Sebastian Zens , Samuel Zygmuntowicz , Michael McMahan , Glenn Bearden , Whitney Osterud , Michael Reis , Michael Lochner , Peter Beare , Eric Benning , Vada Becker , Stephanie Jurewicz and Jonathan Woutat .
