Carl Friedrich Hoffmann

Carl Friedrich Hoffmann (born July 13, 1925 , † April 28, 2007 ) was a German Africanist .

Life

After the University of Hamburg reopened in autumn 1945, he studied African Studies with the minor subjects Phonetics and Latin. After receiving his doctorate in 1955, he had a two-year research grant from the International Africa Institute in London for field research in Nigeria from 1955 to 1957. In the winter semester 1980 he took over the substitute and from the winter semester 1981 the chair for African studies at the University of Bayreuth . He bequeathed his library to Bayreuth University Library .
