Carl Friedrich von der Osten also Osten-Sacken (born February 10, jul. / 21st February  1795 greg. In St. Petersburg , † May 20 jul. / 1. June  1889 greg. In Wiesbaden ) was a German-born nobleman and Imperial Russian officer.

Life

He was the son of the Russian major general Friedrich Wilhelm von der Osten (1746-1830) from the noble family of the von der Osten and his wife Elisabeth, née Elisabeth. Wolchkov (1775-1856). The Saxon major general Ludwig von der Osten (1710–1756) was his grandfather.

Carl Friedrich von der Osten also embarked on an officer career in the Russian army. According to the epitaph, he took part in the campaigns of the Napoleonic Wars in 1812, 1813, 1814 and 1815.

He had been married to Pauline Goliakow since 1821 and had with her the son Feodor Kalowitsch von der Osten (* 1824), who also became a Russian officer. His wife died just a few days after the birth of this son.

In 1840 he retired with the rank of major general. In old age General von der Osten lived in Wiesbaden, where he also died. In the Russian cemetery on the Neroberg he had a grave and a tomb erected while he was still alive. It is said that when the tomb was completed he went down and drank a bottle of champagne there.

The grave is directly to the left of the main entrance and is surrounded by a grid with crossed cannon barrels. The tombstone shows a portrait relief of the deceased, above his family coat of arms, trophies and the Russian medal from 1812 , as well as the medal for the entry into Paris .
