Albert Charles Auguste Plasschaert , also Alb. Plasschaert (born April 20, 1874 in Sas van Gent ; died May 9, 1941 in The Hague ) was a Dutch art critic and painter. He also wrote under the pseudonym A. Pelgrym .

Life

Plasschaert was the son of Maria Christina Josephina Pauwels and Augustus Plasschaert, who held an office in the waterway administration. A cousin was the painter Albert August Plasschaert (1866 to 1941) , who was eight years his senior . The job and work of the two cousins ​​of the same name could only be better distinguished since 1988 through the work of Geurt Imanse, who worked as a librarian at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

After secondary school, Plasschaert attended the Polytechnic School in Delft and for some time studied law at the University of Leiden . During this time he published the art and literary magazine De Tuin and developed into a knowledgeable and influential art critic.

His contributions have appeared in the newspapers Het Vaderland and De Groene Amsterdammer and in magazines such as De Kunst, De Stem and De Nieuwe Gids . Plasschaert wrote a large number of art books, especially on contemporary artists,

Plasschaert designed glass art for the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Glasfabriek JJBJ Bouvy in Dordrecht .

Plasschaert was married three times, from 1906 with Elisabeth Johanna Carolina Gelderman, after the divorce from 1909 with the painter Lucie van Dam van Isselt and after another divorce from 1922 with Cornelia Petronella Gevers.

Plasschaert was appointed officer in the order of Leopold II in Belgium .
