Carl Georg Eduard Gassmann

Carl Georg Eduard Gaßmann ( July 19, 1779 in Hanover - April 22, 1854 ) was a German theater actor .

Life

After leaving his hometown, Gaßmann joined a traveling company in Blankenburg. He made his debut in a barn [!] As "Ludwig the Springer". After three years of wandering, he was hired as a youthful hero in Rostock in 1800. From 1801 to 1802 he was then at the Schwerin Court Theater, from 1802 to 1804 in Bremen, from 1804 to 1805 in Regensburg, from 1806 to 1808 in Stettin, from 1809 to 1812 in Breslau, one season in Gdansk, 1814 at the Nationaltheater Braunschweig, 1815 in Leipzig, later again in Braunschweig and from 1820 to 1826 in Kassel.

In 1826 he was appointed to the court theater in Kassel for the third time. There he was given the lifelong decree as a court actor after his renewed appearance. He stayed there and was retired in April 1850.

Gaßmann first played heroes and lovers and in 1821 switched to the father and character subject. He worked through the truth of the drawing and through its excellent characteristics. His humor, his cosiness and his ardent love for art in general and in particular have always been acclaimed for him. He remained true even in the smallest performance and observed decency in even the most insignificant servant role. He never paid homage to the crowd. An excellent artist, an excellent person, passed away with him.
