Carl Gottfried von Thile (* 1706; † May 11, 1793 in Berlin ) was a Prussian high official and tax expert .

His parents were the Brandenburg colonel Martin von Thile († 1732) and his wife Dorothea Gregori . His brothers Friedrich Wilhelm von Thile (1709–1782) and Friedrich Leopold von Thile (1711–1779) were Prussian and Electoral Saxon generals, respectively.

Life

He enrolled on September 30, 1726 at the University of Halle for law. In October 1729 (or 1730) he became extraordinary war and domain council of the Kurmärkischen chamber. Von Thile earned his reputation as a tax expert when, in 1739, he was the first to summarize and explain the complex, historically evolved tax system of the Mark Brandenburg in his book Message from the Kurmärkische Contribution and Schoss facility . The work appeared in several updated editions over the following decades. After 1740 he became a member of the Silesian Classification Commission and chairman of the Silesian Revision Commission. In 1741 von Thile, meanwhile appointed to the secret war council, was entrusted by Friedrich II with the recording and reorganization of the tax system in the recently conquered Silesia . Thile carried out a comprehensive review of the existing tax regulations and integrated them into the financial system of the kingdom through the Silesian cadastre he had drawn up , which also served as the basis for the renewal of the entire Prussian tax system.

In 1744 he resigned from civil service at his own request. But on February 1, 1745, he was reinstated and his resignation was labeled a mistake. In 1751 he left again, successor was jF Pfeiffer, who was previously court marshal to Margrave Carl.

In 1765 he bought the over-indebted Moethlow estate from his son-in-law Leopold Wilhelm von Retzow . It was not until 1769 that an agreement was reached with the creditors.

In addition to various tax studies, von Thile also wrote writings on philosophical and religious topics in the spirit of the Enlightenment , including reflections on the deity who recognized from reason (1775).

family

He was married twice. His first wife was Anna Sophie von Lagingen . His second wife was Hermine Dorethea von Zieten . The daughter Henriette Christine Friederike married Wilhelm Leopold von Retzow (* July 13, 1729 - May 14, 1803) son of General Wolf Friedrich von Retzow .
