Carl Jóhan Jensen

Carl Jóhan Jensen (born December 2, 1957 in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese writer , literary critic, publicist and translator.

Jensen was born in Tórshavn and grew up in Tinghúsvegur (this is the street by the Løgtings building and the former headquarters of Faroese Telecom ). In 1973 he went to Denmark, where he graduated from high school in 1976. In the same year he moved back to the Faroe Islands and worked there as a journalist. Until 1981 he studied Scandinavian studies (focus on Faroese language and literature) at the University of the Faroe Islands . Until 1987 he studied general literature and Icelandic in Iceland . Together with his wife, Kate Sanderson, he then spent a year in their native Australia . In 1990 he graduated as cand. Phil. at the University of the Faroe Islands. The family then lived in Tromsø , where his wife was Secretary General of NAMMCO (North Atlantic Marine Mammal Organization) from 1993-98 .

In 1989 Jensen received the Faroe Islands Literature Prize for his complete works to date. From 1991 to 1992 he was chairman of Rithøvundafelag Føroya (Writers' Union of the Faroe Islands). In 1998 Jensen was nominated for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize, which he did not receive. In 2006 and 2015 he received the Faroe Islands Literature Prize again.

In 2007 Jensen was again nominated (but not received) for the Nordic Council's Literature Prize, this time for his novel Ó - søgur um djevulsskap ("O - Stories about the Devilish").
