Turið Sigurðardóttir (born August 12, 1946 in Copenhagen ) is a Faroese literary scholar , author and translator. She lives in Tórshavn and teaches at the University of the Faroe Islands .

Turið was born in 1946 to Sigrið av Skarði and Sigurð Joensen . Sigurðardóttir means "Sigurð's daughter" and is a patronymic surname according to the (re-introduced) Faroese naming convention . It was originally called Turið Sigurðardóttir Joensen .

Turið Sigurðardóttir completed her studies in Iceland in 1976 in Icelandic language and literature and general literary history . In 1987 he received a master's degree in general literature from the University of Copenhagen .

She worked at the University of the Faroe Islands from 1976-78 and since 1986. There she is lecturer for literary studies with a research focus on Faroese literary history , children's literature , poetry and the life's work of her grandfather Símun av Skarði . She also teaches translation studies .

As a literary scholar, she is a member of various councils, such as that of her university, the Faroese language council and the council for awarding the Faroese literary prize . She represents the Faroese Writers' Union in awarding the Nordic Council Literature Prize , and she is an examiner at the University of Copenhagen.

Turið Sigurðardóttir is the author of innumerable literary articles and literary reviews, mostly by Faroese authors. She produced a textbook for Icelandic in Faroese and translated authors such as Halldór Laxness and Astrid Lindgren into Faroese. This means that Pippi Longstocking has been available in the smallest North Germanic language since 1993. In addition to the Pippi Longstocking series, the publication of the complete works of Símun av Skarði in seven volumes is her most extensive work.

The article in Kindler's literary dictionary on Faroese literature (in volume 20) was also written by Turið Sigurðardóttir.

As part of the cultural cooperation between the Faroe Islands and the Shetland Islands , decided in 2003, she organized the first joint scientific conference, which took place in Shetland in 2006 and dealt with the work of the Faroese linguist Jakob Jakobsen , who was equally important for both countries.
