Märta Eleonora Tikkanen , b. Cavonius (born April 3, 1935 in Helsinki (Swedish Helsingfors ), Finland ) is a Finnish-Swedish literary scholar , writer and philosophy teacher.

Life

Tikkanen is the daughter of the university professor Gösta Edvin Cavonius and his wife Julia Margit Stadius. She was married to the writer Henrik Tikkanen from 1963 until his death in 1984.

Tikkanen completed her studies in literature in 1958. She then worked as a literary critic and journalist , including for the Swedish- language daily Hufvudstadsbladet . From 1961 to 1966 she worked as a language editor . She has also worked as the rector of the "Swedish Workers Institute Helsinki" ( Helsingfors svenska arbetarinstitut ). From 1972 to 1980 she was the rector of a community college . She has been a freelance writer since 1980.

Tikkanen is best known internationally for her novel How do I rape a man? ( Män kan inte våldtas - Men cannot be rape, 1975), which received some attention in feminist literature of the 1970s. The book was filmed in 1978 in a Finnish- Swedish co-production (director: Jörn Donner ). The film was released internationally under the English title " Manrape ". In 1992 Ingrid L. Ernst Älskap directed for the Modern Theater Berlin .

Because the official literary prize of the Nordic Council was to be awarded to a man for the 18th time in a row -  Ivar Lo-Johansson received it - the Nordiske kvinders litteraturpris was founded “out of protest” and was awarded to it in 1979.

Tikkanen lives and works in Finland.
