Verena Reichel

Verena Reichel (born March 21, 1945 in Grimma ) is a German literary translator .

Life

Verena Reichel grew up bilingually in Stockholm and in southern Germany . After completing an apprenticeship at a journalism school, she studied Scandinavian , German and theater studies . Since 1972 she has worked as a freelance translator of prose , poetry and plays from Swedish , Norwegian and Danish .

Verena Reichel is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ, in the Association of German Writers . She received u. a. The following awards: 1987 the Swedish Academy Award for Translators, 1992 the Helmut M. Braem Award , 1995 the Petrarca Award and the Nossack Academy Award of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz (together with Lars Gustafsson ), 1998 the Jane Scatcherd Prize and the 2008 Johann Heinrich Voß Prize for Translation .
