The Celera Corporation is a US-based company, which in May 1998 by the PE Corporation (now Applera Corporation) and Craig Venter was founded, a genome researcher and founder of the Institute for Genomic Research (TIGR). The company was founded to gather information about genomes through DNA sequencing and to commercialize it.

In 1998, Craig Venter announced that he wanted to decode the entire human genome faster and cheaper than the Human Genome Project . The shotgun method should be used for sequencing . In 2000 the preliminary results were finally published, according to which 96% of the human genome had been deciphered.

On May 17, 2011, Celera was taken over by Quest Diagnostics .
