Agneta Christina Pleijel Bielawska (born February 26, 1940 in Stockholm , Sweden ) is a Swedish writer , playwright and journalist .

Life

Agneta Pleijel is the daughter of the mathematician Åke and the writer and musician Sonja Pleijel . Her sister is the television producer Sonja Pleijel. She grew up in Lund and the United States . Pleijel studied ethnography , literary history and philosophy at the University of Gothenburg . After working in the culture section of the tabloid Aftonbladet from 1968 to 1972 , Pleijel became a literary critic in 1973. After working as an editor for the cultural magazine Ord & Bild from 1972 to 1975, she returned to Aftonbladet in 1975, where she was head of the cultural department for four years.

As early as 1970, Pleijel made her debut as a playwright together with the historian and writer Ronny Ambjörnsson with the play Ordning härskar i Berlin . With the volume of poetry Änglar, Dvärgar , she made her debut as a poet in 1981 and for her semi-biographical debut novel Vindspejare she was awarded the Esselte-priset and the Stora romanpriset in 1987 . The story of a family that spans five generations and has family roots in Sweden, the Netherlands and East India was published in 1992 by Piper Verlag , based on a translation by Hans-Joachim Maass under the German title Der Weg des Windes .

Since 1998 Pleijel has been a permanent member of the Swedish Academy of Literature Samfundet De Nio , where she holds the sixth seat. At the same time, she was elected President of the Swedish subsidiary PEN for two years .

Pleijel has been married to the cultural journalist Maciej Zaremba since 1982 . Agneta Pleijel's daughter, born in 1970, is the former actress Lina Pleijel .
