Carl Heinrich Kitzerow (born February 13, 1799 in Hamburg , † February 11, 1874 in Milan ) was a German decorative painter and lithographer .

Life

Kitzerow has demonstrably been active as a decorative painter and lithographer in Hamburg since 1825. The lithography was created in 1818 by Johannes Michael Speckter in Hamburg, which, under the leadership of his family, developed into a center for this new reproduction technique in northern Germany. During this time of widespread demand, Kitzerow also achieved his main income with portrait lithographs, but also painted landscapes . Thieme-Becker state that it is artistically dry, far behind the work of Otto Speckter . The work of both documents today in the State Archives of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the State and University Library Hamburg (not only) Hamburg personalities from the middle of the 19th century in pictures. Kitzerow's work also found its way into the collections of the Hamburger Kunsthalle . As a decorative painter, he painted the former Alsterhalle from 1835 with pictures of the history of Hamburg , which with his explanations also appeared in print in 1847. Kitzerow's personal art collection consisting of his own and third-party works (paintings, engravings and lithographs) was sold to the public on November 5, 1867, when he moved to Milan in Hamburg in 1867.
