Carl Nebe (singer, 1868)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl Nebe (* 1868 in Colmar ; † unknown) was a German opera, concert and entertainment singer with a bass voice .

He was engaged in Colmar, Metz, Düsseldorf and Kassel. In contrast to his somewhat older namesake, the court opera singer Carl Nebe (1858–1908), he mainly appeared as a concert singer and also sang numerous records.

Around 1908 he founded the Nebe Quartet with August Bockmann (tenor), Max Kuttner (tenor) and Reinhold Niemeier (baritone) . He also recorded folk songs with Robert Koppel , Max Kuttner , Emil Justitz and Max Steidl, some of which have been preserved on phonograph cylinders and shellac records from the Deutsche Grammophon and Odeon labels. At times there was a Browier-Hamann-Nebe Quartet and the Wilde Rose Quartet .

He also used the pseudonym Karl Rapp on Zonophon and the pseudonym Karl Hoffmann on some Edison cylinders.

  1. cf. Nebe, Carl in: Kutsch / Riemens: Large Singer Lexicon : Contrary to previous assumptions, there are probably no records at all by the bassist of the Berlin court opera Carl Nebe. All records or cylinders sung about under the name Carl Nebe come from the bass player of the same name, Carl Nebe (* 1868).
