Carl Peter (* 1866 ; † 1942 ) was a German composer.

Carl Peter published the popular march Der kreuzfidele Coppersmith in 1881 . In addition to the typical characteristics of marching music , the piece in the trio contains passages that are to be sung, played with the anvil and whistled. The march was published in a brass music edition in 1883 and for bandoneon in 1888 . It became internationally popular, in English-speaking countries under the title The Jolly Coppersmith, in French as Le Joyeux Forgeron and in Swedish Den glade kopparslagaren. The theme has been used as film music several times, including in the Swedish film Miss Julie . Gustav Peter is sometimes incorrectly stated as the composer of the march .
