Carl Pettersson (born August 29, 1977 in Gothenburg ) is a Swedish professional golfer who mainly plays on the North American PGA TOUR .
Amateur career
His father was an international manager of a European automotive company, and so Carl spent his youth in England and later in the USA, where he ultimately attended North Carolina State University . As an amateur, he won four tournaments in the US before winning the European Amateur Individual Championship in 2000 .
Professional career
In September 2000 Pettersson became a professional golfer and qualified for the European Tour , which he played in 2001 and 2002. He won the Algarve Open de Portugal in 2002 and reached another seven top 10 placings this season. At the end of 2002, Pettersson successfully completed the Q-School for the PGA TOUR and has since been mainly involved in this tournament series. He won his first PGA Tour title in 2005 at the Chrysler Championship , making Pettersson the third Swede, after Jesper Parnevik and Gabriel Hjertstedt , to win a PGA TOUR event. In 2006 he also succeeded in winning the prestigious Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club , commonly known as the Jack Nicklaus tournament and the Legend Slam (including the tournaments of Ben Hogan , Byron Nelson and Arnold Palmer ) . After further victories, Pettersson was able to achieve the fifth title on the PGA Tour at the RBC Heritage in April 2012 and, together with Jesper Parnevik, is the most successful Swede of the tournament series.
In the golf world rankings , the Swede was among the top 50 for years, which earned him the right to start in the majors and the highly endowed WGC events ( World Golf Championships tournament series).
Carl Pettersson has been married since 2003 with one daughter and lives in Raleigh , North Carolina .
