Carl Testa

Carl Testa (* 1984 in Chicago ) is an American jazz and improvisation musician ( double bass , also clarinet , bass clarinet , electronics).

Live and act

Testa studied music in Chicago with Donn DeSanto at the University of Chicago Lab School, and at the AACM music school , where he a. a. worked with Mwata Bowden , Ann Ward , Avreeyal Ra , Steve Berry and Ernest Dawkins . He then moved to Middletown, Connecticut to study music and sociology at Wesleyan University Anthony Braxton , Neely Bruce , Alvin Lucier , Ron Kuivila , Charles Lemert . At the beginning of his career he played in the ensembles of Anthony Braxton, to be heard on the albums 9 Compositions (Iridium) 2006 and 12 + 1tet (Victoriaville) 2007 . He was a member of the New Haven Improvisers Collective (album Interference ). In 2008 he presented his debut album Uncertainty . In the field of jazz he was involved in 11 recording sessions between 2005 and 2011. He also works with his own band projects, with which he plays his compositions, and is also active as a soloist in electro-acoustic music and as the organizer of the Uncertainty Music Series . Testa is married to the singer Anne Rhodes , with whom he performs in his New Haven residence and in New York. Testa is currently leading a sextet, with Erica Dicker (violin), Junko Fujiwara (cello), Louis Guarino Jr. (trumpet), Andria Nicodemou (vibraphone) and Anne Rhodes.
