Carl Völckers (ophthalmologist)

Carl Friedrich Georg Völckers (born March 28, 1836 in Lensahn ; † February 2, 1914 in Kiel ) was a German ophthalmologist and the first professor of ophthalmology at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel .

Life

Völckers came from a medical family; he was a son of the doctor Friedrich Ludwig Philipp Völckers and a grandson of the Eutinian Physicus Friedrich Carl Völckers . He studied medicine at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. He was a member of the Corps Brunsviga (1857) and Holsatia (1859).

In 1859 he went to Friedrich von Esmarch , who still represented surgery and ophthalmology together. In 1866 he was made an extraordinary professor and entrusted with the management of the newly founded clinic for ophthalmology and ear, nose and throat medicine . In 1868 he became a full professor and director of the Clinic for Ophthalmology. He held this office until his retirement in 1907.
