Carl Wemmers

Carl Wemmers (* 1845 ; † September 18, 1882 in Cologne ) was a German chess master .

At the congress of the West German Chess Federation in Cologne in 1877, he shared second place behind Johannes Zukertort with Johannes Metger and Emil Schallopp . A year later in Frankfurt am Main he finished 8th ahead of Adolf Stern and Eduard Hammacher. Wemmers also took part in the first congress of the German Chess Federation in Leipzig in 1879, but did not get beyond the last place. In 1880 he finished 12th out of sixteen participants at the tournament in Wiesbaden, ahead of Alexander Fritz and Constantin Schwede. At the second DSB Congress in Berlin (1881) he shared 13th place with Fritz Riemann .

Wemmers was a businessman in Cologne, an amateur musician and a singer. He died of blood poisoning in his parents' house after several months of illness .
