Carl Wilhelm Freund Walther

Carl Wilhelm Freund Walther (born November 22, 1858 - † July 9, 1915 ) was a German gunsmith and entrepreneur .

Life

His father was August Theodor Albert Walther, a copper and iron caster, and Rosalie Wilhelmine Amalie Pistor, who came from the Pistor family of gunsmiths. Walther received his training from the gunsmith Willibald Barthelmes and later from Albin Schneider. In 1886 Walther founded his own gunsmith's shop in Zella-Mehlis , Thuringia , which is the predecessor of today's German company Carl Walther GmbH . In 1888 he married Minna Georgine Pickert, with whom he had five children.

His eldest son Fritz Walther (1889–1966) took over his father's business after the death of Carl Wilhelm Walther.

His son Lothar Walther (1899-1983) was a member of the German national team of pistol shooters in the 1930s and won the bronze medal with her at the 1939 World Championships. In 1925 he founded Lothar Walther Feinwerkzeugbau GmbH , which is still cold-extruded barrels for today Firearms manufactures.
