Carl Wilhelm Günther , also Karl Wilhelm Günther (* 1809 in Düsseldorf ; † March 3, 1859 in Leipzig ) was a German opera singer ( bass ) and theater actor .

Life

Günther was the student of his father Carl Günther , who trained him for the stage. In 1828 he made his successful debut in Magdeburg. In 1830 he had an engagement in Cologne; 1831 in Düsseldorf, with this Düsseldorf theater he also had a guest appearance in London. Although Karl Immermann tried to keep him, he went to Hanover as the first bass player, where he worked until 1834. He then went to Riga (1834–1844), Cologne (1844–1845), then to various stages, in Regensburg (1849–1852) and in Bamberg (1852–1855).

After that he did not accept a permanent engagement, but worked as a freelancer and sang his first bass and buffo parts on various occasions. His good looks and lively game also helped him to make successful appearances as an actor. He died on March 3, 1859 in Leipzig.

His sister was the actress Caroline Günther-Bachmann .
