Carl Willmann (born August 17, 1848 in Waren (Müritz) ; † February 16, 1934 in Hamburg-Blankenese ) was a German magician , publicist, manufacturer and seller of magical props in Hamburg.

Life

In 1872, Carl Willman ran a watchmaker's shop and a mechanical workshop at 29 Dragonerstall Street in Hamburg. He starts making magic devices. In 1881 the shop and workshop were relocated to Hohe Bleichen 5. The expansion of the manufacture of magic devices made another move necessary. Carl Willmann therefore rented an entire house in Neue ABC-Strasse 3 in 1881 for his business and workshop operations. In 1905 he moved again, this time to Mercurstrasse. 34, as the increased construction of large illusions led to a lack of space.

Carl Willmann was one of the most famous magic device dealers and specialist writers of his time. He was the first in the world to publish a magazine for magicians. The Magic World appeared monthly without interruption from 1895 to 1904. In July 1919 the companies Janos Bartl and Carl Willmann merged to form the United Magic Apparatus Factory Bartl & Willmann. The collaboration ended in 1924.
