Carl Wolff (Economist)

Carl Wolff (born October 11, 1849 in Schäßburg , Transylvania , † October 3, 1929 in Sibiu ) was an economist , journalist and politician. In historical retrospect, he is considered to be one of the most important economic experts in Transylvania.

Life

Carl Wolff was born into a respected local family in Schäßburg. He completed his law studies in Vienna and Heidelberg, among others .

After three years as a journalist for the Neue Freie Presse in Vienna, he took over the management of the newly founded Transylvanian-German daily newspaper in 1874 . He was also director of the Hermannstädter Allgemeine Sparkasse and founder of the Raiffeisen Cooperative in 1885.

He was a member of the Coetus Chlamydatorum Schaessburgiensis.

In Sibiu, the "Dr. Carl Wolff" nursing home, built in 1995, is named after him.

The "Carl Wolff Society, Transylvanian Business Club in Germany eV" was founded in Munich. The association would like to honor the life's work of Carl Wolff by giving it a name.
